Astrid Jahnsen (1972, Lima, Perú),
My work operates at the intersection of photography, visual research, and a critical examination of systems of representation. Rather than producing images from scratch, I engage with preexisting materials, such as old books, encyclopedias, archives, albums, and audiovisual records, understood not as neutral sources, but as devices shaped by ideology. Through them, I read between the lines, exploring what has been omitted, naturalized, or rendered invisible within narratives.
I use photography as a tool to shift perspective. By working with macro lenses, I move closer to details, margins, and fragments that often go unnoticed, proposing new ways of seeing. This gesture allows me to reconfigure meaning without physically altering the original materials, unlike collage. The transformation takes place through the act of looking: in selection, framing, and magnification.
My practice reflects on how visual narratives are constructed and questions the supposed objectivity of the image. I aim to open a space where viewers can reconsider their relationship with images and recognize them as territories shaped by multiple perspectives.

Mi trabajo se sitúa en el cruce entre la fotografía, la investigación visual y la revisión crítica de los sistemas de representación. Más que producir imágenes desde cero, me interesa trabajar a partir de materiales preexistentes, libros antiguos, enciclopedias, archivos, álbumes o registros audiovisuales, entendidos no como fuentes neutrales, sino como dispositivos cargados de ideología. A través de ellos, busco leer entre líneas y explorar aquello que ha sido omitido, naturalizado o invisibilizado dentro de los relatos.
Utilizo la fotografía como una herramienta de desplazamiento de la mirada. Mediante el uso de lentes macro, me acerco a los detalles, a los márgenes y a los fragmentos que suelen pasar desapercibidos, proponiendo nuevas formas de ver. Este gesto me permite reconfigurar el sentido de las imágenes sin intervenir físicamente los archivos, a diferencia del collage. La transformación ocurre desde la mirada: en la selección, el encuadre y la ampliación.
Mi práctica propone una reflexión sobre cómo se construyen las narrativas visuales y cuestiona la supuesta objetividad de la imagen. Me interesa abrir un espacio donde el espectador pueda reconsiderar su relación con las imágenes y reconocerlas como territorios atravesados por múltiples perspectivas.
