Astrid Jahnsen (born 1972, Lima, Peru),
Astrid Jahnsen (born 1972, Lima, Peru), is an artist working in the field of photography. She studied Communication Sciences and initially worked as an advertising copywriter. In her artistic practice she focuses on traditional image discourses and the importance of personal perspective in historical narratives. In her photographic projects Jahnsen draws from pre-existing materials such as old books, encyclopedias, archives and albums, thereby, reading between the lines to discover the ideologies behind the different discourses.
Jahnsen grew up in Lima. She spent summers and weekends with her grandmother, who had a small library with many family albums. Her great-grandfather was an English engineer who came to Peru to build the railways and who was an amateur photographer. This early connection with the past led to a fascination for photographs and old books.
Jahnsen has participated in various competitions and portfolio reviews in Spain, England, Hungary, Switzerland and the USA and has been exhibited in Lima (Peru), Bloomington (USA) and Tampa (USA), among others. The presentation ‘Astrid Jahnsen - On Your Knees’ was presented last year in The Pinakothek der Moderne, Germany.

Astrid Jahnsen (nacida en 1972, Lima, Perú), es una artista que trabaja en el campo de la fotografía. Estudió Ciencias de la Comunicación en la Universidad de Lima. En su práctica artística se centra en los discursos tradicionales de la imagen y la importancia de la perspectiva personal en las narrativas históricas. En sus proyectos fotográficos, Jahnsen usa materiales preexistentes como libros antiguos, enciclopedias, archivos y álbumes, leyendo entre líneas para descubrir las ideologías detrás de los diferentes discursos.
Jahnsen creció en Lima. Pasaba los veranos y los fines de semana con su abuela, quien tenía una pequeña biblioteca con muchos álbumes familiares. Su bisabuelo fue un ingeniero inglés que llegó al Perú para construir los ferrocarriles y que era fotógrafo aficionado. Esta conexión temprana con el pasado llevó a una fascinación por las fotografías y los libros antiguos.
Ha participado en diversos concursos y reseñas de portafolios en España, Inglaterra, Hungría, Suiza y EE. UU. y ha sido expuesta en Lima (Perú), Bloomington (EE. UU.) y Tampa (EE. UU.), entre otros. En mayo de 2022, su Exposición de rodillas se presentó el 2022 en la Pinakothek der Moderne en Alemania.
